Pupils in Year 7 and 8 join the Lower School. All pupils in Year 9 and above join one of the five core Houses at the heart of College life. Orchard, Skipwith and Everett houses day pupils while flexi-, weekly and full boarders are housed in Burr or Welsh.
The College buildings are centred on Shiplake Court, which dates back to 1889. Having begun life as a fine Victorian family home, Shiplake Court now houses the traditional Great Hall and a number of smaller rooms which can be utilised to create a perfect day for every couple.
Shiplake College lies on a beautiful 47 acre site on the banks of the River Thames just 2½ miles upstream from Henley-on-Thames. The main buildings are centred on Shiplake Court, a fine Victorian manor house built in 1890. The house has since been named after David Skipwith, a key figure in the early days of the College.

Shiplake's Scholars form part of The Exemplum Docet Society (named after the school motto, meaning 'the example teaches'). The society is run by Master of Scholars, Mr Joe Player . Scholarships and exhibitions are merit-based awards designed to reward excellence and celebrate and nurture exceptional talent.
Every pupil is placed at the heart of Shiplake life and the College’s ethos is underpinned by what is referred to as the Three Is – Inclusive, Individual and Inspirational. The majority of pupils join Shiplake in year 7 (11+), year 9 (13+) or yYear 12 (16+) but occasionally places are available in other year groups.
