Kinsey scale (Noun) The scale developed by Alfred Kinsey in the 1940s, which was used for measuring sexual attraction and behavior along a continuum. Instead of assigning people to two categories—heterosexual and homosexual—Kinsey used a spectrum ranging from 0 (exclusively heterosexual) to 6 (exclusively homosexual).
The Kinsey Scale, as it was later named, proved that not all people are inherently heterosexual or homosexual; in fact, sexuality exists on a wide spectrum. The Kinsey Scale set a standard for measuring sexuality as existing along a spectrum, rather than what was once thought of as bipolar (heterosexual or homosexual).

De Kinsey-schaal is een constructie van seksuoloog en bioloog Alfred Kinsey. Hij introduceerde de schaal als een instrument waarin seksuele reacties verdeeld zijn op een continuüm van biseksualiteit, met uitsluitend hetero- of homoseksueel als de twee uitersten. Er is ook een bijkomende graad x, die staat voor aseksualiteit.
