One wonder was the Lighthouse of Alexandria, erected around 283 B.C. on the island of Pharos. Standing 445 feet tall, it guided ships with a burning brazier until an earthquake toppled it in the 1300s.

The contract to build the Cape Nelson Lighthouse was signed in 1882 by John Horne and Isaac Slingo, and the construction fee was 11,552 pounds.
