Better Than Ezra was formed in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Kevin Griffin, lead guitarist Joel Rundell, bassist Tom Drummond, and drummer Cary Bonnecaze. All four members were attending Louisiana State University at the time of Better Than Ezra's formation.
After the Louisiana-based pop trio named “Better than Ezra” made their first recording, the erstwhile drummer for the group – improbably named Cary Bonnecaze — claimed that he was a joint author of the songs on the recording and due, therefore, a share of their copyright revenues.

Cary Bonnecaze. Best known as the original drummer and founding member of American alternative rock band, Better Than Ezra. Was active with Better Than Ezra from 1988-1995, then replaced by Travis McNabb. Before he was in Better Than Ezra, he was in a band called Reality Patio.
