Second guitarist Mike Flyntz joined the ranks for the band's 1989 Thundersteel tour of Japan where Riot maintained their strongest subsequent following. Along with hiring tour manager Joey Batts who toured with them through the U.S and Japan.

Después del trágico fallecimiento de su líder, Mark Reale, los integrantes restantes de la banda liderados por Don Van Stavern y Mike Flyntz (único miembro que llevaba ininterrumpidamente en Riot desde la década de 1980) deciden continuar con su legado, con la aprobación del padre de Mark, Tony Reale [21] .
