As in the original Mad Max films, Max's personal weapon is a Sawn-off Double Barreled Shotgun, in particular for this film, a sawn-off Victor Sarasqueta shotgun. It is taken from him by the War Boys early on in the film and given to Nux ( Nicholas Hoult ), who uses in an attempt to kill Furiosa during the first chase sequence, but misses.
In Mad Max: Fury Road, Max uses a sawn-off Antique 20-gauge side by side shotgun manufactured by the long-defunct Victor Sarasqueta Arms manufacturing company. The Shotgun in Fury Road in particular appears to be a Model 1.
Late in the movie, "Aunt May" Swaisey (Sheila Florance), the old woman that Max and family are staying with, uses a very old, exposed-hammer shotgun, likely a Charles Parker 1878, to herd Toecutter's biker thugs into a shed.

After the storm and the consequent "car crash", Max tries to shoot his captor's wrist, so he can be free of their metallic chain, but this doesn't work (and thankfully).
