The albums that Mott the Hoople were releasing were not selling well even though the band had developed a loyal cult following. Tours were canceled and it looked like the band was about to break up.

Mott The Hoople were formed by guitarist Mick Ralphs as a sort of cross between the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
