They often occur after exercise or at night. They are called growing pains because they usually affect the arms and legs—the limbs that show the most obvious evidence of growth.

  5. According to my doctor I’m having growing pain. I’ve had this pain in my tibias since mid April. About 2 months now. I play lacrosse and I t started off as shin splints, but now my shin splint muscles no longer hurt. Rather my tibia itself hurts.

Young adults as old as the age 22 may still feel them at times, but after that age the pains should stop completely. In adults over the age of 22, things that can mimic growing pains include: 1. Joint Hypermobility.
