André Lamar Phillips (born September 5, 1959) is a retired American track and field athlete who is best known for winning the 400 metres hurdles gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games. Phillips spent most of his career in the shadow of his idol, Edwin Moses, frequently as runner up during Moses' unequaled winning streak.
In winning the gold medal in the men's 400m hurdles at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Andre Phillips picked the best possible time to notch his only career win over his idol and fellow National Track & Field Hall of Famer Edwin Moses.

André Phillips was in the shadow of his idol Edwin Moses throughout his career, managing to beat him just once, at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Phillips attended UCLA, winning the 1981 NCAA title in the 400 hurdles, and finishing fifth at the first World Championships in 1983.
