Michael James Owen (Chester, Cheshire, Inglaterra; 14 de diciembre de 1979) es un exfutbolista británico. Ganó el Balón de Oro en 2001, imponiéndose en la votación final a Raúl González y Oliver Kahn , lo que lo convirtió en el segundo jugador más joven en conseguir este premio.

The 2001 Ballon d'Or, given to the best football player in Europe as judged by a panel of sports journalists from UEFA member countries, was awarded to Michael Owen on 18 December 2001. Owen was the fifth English national to win the award after Stanley Matthews , Bobby Charlton (1966) and Kevin Keegan (1978, 1979).

On 29 December 2001, Owen scored his 100th goal for Liverpool during the season against West Ham United. He also led them to success in the Charity Shield and the UEFA Super Cup during the start of the season in 2001.
