This is the case when the conditions are not mutually exclusive: if x == 0: result = 0 elif y == 0: result = None else: result = x / y In some cases it is efficient because the interpreter doesn't need to check all conditions, which is the case in your example.

23 de oct. de 2010 · @Mark, I agree... but it messes me up sometimes because I'm used to languages that have an elseif. I know it's identical, but I wonder what javascript's reason is for leaving it out. I am glad, however, that they didn't use elif, because that's just wrong :) –
@jdi Though conditional-expressions may not be to your taste, they were specifically designed to handle if-elif-elif-else chains, just as the OP requested. They aren't hard to learn and can gracefully handle situations that aren't as amenable to dictionary lookup logic: 'A' if grade>=90 else 'B' if grade>=80 else 'C' if grade>=70 else 'F' .

Hay una diferencia fundamental, si usas if encadenados todas las expresiones son evaluadas siempre, aunque una previa sea cierta: print(f"{a} es divisible entre 5") print(f"{a} es divisible entre 3") Si usas elif, en el momento que una condición anterior (el if u otro elif) se cumpla, ese elif y el resto que le sigan no se evalúan siquiera ...

18 de jun. de 2013 · if something == 'this': doThis() elif something == 'that': doThat() elif something == 'there': doThere() else: doThisMostOfTheTime() This construct is done a lot , but since it goes over every condition before it hits the else I have the feeling this is not very efficient, let alone Pythonic.
