James Brian Gordon Hastings (12 May 1938 – 18 March 2024) was a British musician associated with the Canterbury scene who played saxophones, flute and clarinet.

He played with his brother Pye Hastings in Caravan, with Soft Machine, Hatfield and the North, National Health, Bryan Ferry, Trapeze, Chris Squire, among others. He played alto saxophone, clarinet and flute with Humphrey Lyttelton’s eight-piece jazz band.

Jimmy Hastings is a versatile and experienced musician who has played with various bands, orchestras, and artists. He is also a professor of jazz saxophone and a member of the John Dankworth Gen Band.
Jimmy Hastings. UK flautist, saxophonist and session musician, played with many bands from the Canterbury scene including Caravan and Hatfield & The North. More recently appeared with the band Ultramarine. Born May 12, 1938 in Aberdeen, Scotland; died March 18, 2024.
