25 de ene. de 2016 · After being seriously injured in a car accident, Pritchard refused to give up, but changed to a less stressing way of drumming with eventually switching to a less strenuous electronic drum kit. He stayed with the band throughout its history, resulting in 23 studio and live albums between 1970-1997.
Melvyn Paul Pritchard, better known to his friends as Melve and to legions of Barclay James Harvest fans as Mel, was one of the great rock drummers. Born in Oldham on January 20th, 1948, he met Les Holroyd, with whom he would enjoy a life-long friendship, at a very early age:
They were founded in Oldham, in September 1966 by bassist/vocalist Les Holroyd (b. 1948), guitarist/vocalist John Lees (b. 1947), drummer/percussionist Mel Pritchard (1948–2004), and keyboardist/vocalist Stuart "Woolly" Wolstenholme (1947–2010).

I had been drumming from the age of eight but I was now deadly serious about learning the instrument as well as I could. Mel's style was different somehow to nearly every other drummer I had heard - here was someone who really played from the heart as well as having a unique style.
