The Upsetters was the name given to the house band for Jamaican reggae producer Lee "Scratch" Perry. The name of the band comes from Perry's nickname of Upsetter, after his song "I Am the Upsetter", a musical dismissal of his former boss Coxsone Dodd .
Lee Perry's studio band for the Upsetter label - the same as in Lee Perry & The Upsetters. Formed in 1968 the Upsetters had three distinct line-ups. The first line-up was comprised of Gladdy Anderson & Winston Wright (keyboards), Jackie Jackson (bass), Hugh Malcom & Lloyd "Tin Legs" Adams (drums).
The Upsetter is a studio album of Lee "Scratch" Perry productions, released in 1969. The album largely comprises instrumentals from Perry's studio band The Upsetters , but also features vocal tracks by Busty Brown and The Muskyteers (aka the Silvertones ).
The Hippy Boys simply became the new Upsetters in 1969 when the original Upsetters were set to tour the UK on the back of the success of "Return of Django" and Lee Perry for various reasons chose to send The Hippy Boys instead billed as The Upsetters.
