I wouldn't say soul eater Not is as good as the original, but you're just ragging on its negatives without representing any of the good parts. It expands the world and has a few cute couples, whil strengthening the support cast from the first one.
The weapon-meister dynamic is a good analogue for any intimate relationship, not just romantic partnership. A lot of people like the romantic variety for Soul and Maka but it's not official. Most of the ships aren't, especially in the anime.
