Controlled Bleeding was an experimental music group [1] based in Massapequa, New York. The group was founded by Paul Lemos, the group's only consistent member. Most of Controlled Bleeding's released recordings feature two main collaborators, Chris Moriarty and vocalist Joe Papa, who both died in the late 2000s.
Controlled Bleeding. Paul Lemos co-founded Controlled Bleeding, an experimental band, in Boston circa 1978. Lemos moved back to Massapequa, New York, reformed the group and ultimately released the band's ear-shattering debut full-length, KNEES AND BONES in 1982. The record is considered one of the earliest recordings of American power electronics.
Perhaps the North American counterpart to the legendary Coil, Controlled Bleeding are duly categorised as Eclectic Prog thanks to their wild stylistic shifts, the result of Lemos' creative whims and self-admitted "short attention span."

For the last 30 years, CONTROLLED BLEEDING has released dozens of albums that have touched on many musical genres, from the noise experimentation of the band's 1983 classic caterwaul KNEES AND BONES, to the dance-driven thunk of its late '80s output on Wax Trax! to soundscapes on Soleilmoon.
