Sir John Turton Randall, FRS FRSE [2] (23 March 1905 – 16 June 1984) was an English physicist and biophysicist, credited with radical improvement of the cavity magnetron, an essential component of centimetric wavelength radar, which was one of the keys to the Allied victory in the Second World War.

Pioneer and leader in biophysics. Sir John Randall, in his role as Wheatstone Professor of Physics at King's College London, was responsible for setting up the Medical Research Council Biophysics Unit that pioneered x-ray analysis of the DNA molecule under the supervision of Maurice Wilkins.
John Randall was an unusual scientist who made outstanding contributions in three very different areas of science. First he made his mark in solid-state physics. Next, for radar he invented (with H. A. H. Boot) the cavity magnetron, which was probably the most decisive contribution of science to the winning of World War II.
