The Black Watch is a line infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, formed in 1881 by the amalgamation of two Highland regiments. It has a long history of service in various conflicts, from the Anglo-Egyptian War to the Iraq War, and is known for its red hackle and tartan uniform.
The Black Watch was an infantry unit born in the aftermath of the First Jacobite Rebellion of 1715. The senior Highland regiment, it went on to fight in nearly all the British Army's campaigns and is now part of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland is normally based in Fort George near Inverness – an 18th Century Fort looking out over the Moray Firth, and has taken on the role of Security Force Assistance. The Battalion has had a presence both in the UK and across Europe.
